Japan

Until the Fukushima accident, Japan had 55 operating nuclear reactors as well as enrichment and reprocessing plants which had suffered a series of deadly accidents at its nuclear facilities resulting in the deaths of workers and releases of radioactivity into the environment and surrounding communities. WEBINAR: FUKUSHIMA +10 -- Threats to release radioactive water and soil

Despite opposition from many fishermen and citizens, the Japanese government may soon decide to dump 2 million cubic meters of radiation-contaminated water stored at the Fukushima nuclear site into the sea. At least 14 million cubic meters of radioactively contaminated soil could be spread across farmland and used for public works.

FoE Japan is holding an international webinar on these threats to human and marine health and safety, on Saturday, October 17, 9pm-11pm Eastern US time. There will be simultaneous interpretation from Japanese to English, Click here to register.

This is the second webinar in a series, "10 Years after the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster”. Speakers will include affected people from Fukushima.
