Reprocessing
France reprocesses its own and some foreign irradiated fuel. However, far from a "recycling" operation, as it is sometimes termed, only about 1 percent of the reprocessed fuel is used again as reactor fuel, whole 99 percent remains as radioactive waste. The Hague reprocessing facility, if hit by a jet airliner, could released six times more radioactivity than the Chernobyl accident.
