Opposition to OPG DGR grows: 168 Great Lakes resolutions representing 22.5 million, joined by National Association of Counties!

Map showing communities in Canada and the US that have passed resolutions opposing OPG's DGR. See a large format version of the map at www.stopthegreatlakesnucleardump.comAs reported by Stop the Great Lakes Nuclear Dump, with the addition of Macomb County, MI, as well as Loyalist Township and the Municipality of Bluewater in Ontario, there are now 168 resolutions from across the Great Lakes Basin in opposition to Ontario Power Generation's (OPG) proposed Deep Geologic Repository (DGR) for low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste burial on the Lake Huron shore at its Bruce Nuclear Generating Station in Kincardine, Ontario.

The population represented by these 168 resolutions, from states, counties, cities, towns, and villages, has now topped 22.5 million -- well over half of those (40 million) who depend on the Great Lakes for drinking water across 8 U.S. states, 2 Canadian provinces, and a large number of Native American First Nations.

Also as reported by Stop the Great Lakes Nuclear Dump, the National Association of Counties has passed a resolution opposing the DGR. The National Association of Counties represents 2,300 counties across the U.S., where 255 million Americans reside.

If your town, county, or state has not yet passed a resolution, use the models posted at Stop the Great Lakes Nuclear Dump website, and urge your elected officials to do so, to protect the Great Lakes!
