The nuclear industry has been heavily subsidized throughout its 50+-year history in the U.S. It continues to seek the lion's share of federal funding since it cannot otherwise afford to expand.

May 2009 group letter to Congress opposing amendments to the 2009 Energy Bill that would subsidize nuclear power

The group letter, signed by Beyond Nuclear, urges Members to oppose the Murkowski amendments and all amendments that would further subsidize the nuclear industry or establish reprocessing and "temporary" storage of radioactive waste.

Beyond Nuclear and allies urge blocking of nuclear subsidies

On April 15th, Beyond Nuclear and allies urged the Senate and House Budget Committee members to block funding for new reactor subsidies, as well as radioactive waste reprocessing, in their imminent Budget Resolution Conference Committee.

Environmental groups also sent a strong letter of opposition to the Lieberman-Warner climate change legislation.
