We coined the term, "Nuclear Retreat" here at Beyond Nuclear to counter the nuclear industry's preposterous "nuclear renaissance" propaganda campaign. You've probably seen "Nuclear Retreat" picked up elsewhere and no wonder - the alleged nuclear revival so far looks more like a lot of running away. On this page we will keep tabs on every latest nuclear retreat as more and more proposed new nuclear programs are canceled.

Effort to lift ban on new nukes in Minnesota stalls out

The Minnesota Energy, Utilities, Technologies and Communications Senate committee tabled a bill which would have repealed the current ban on new nuclear power plants in the state until the nuclear waste issue is addressed. You can watch the repeal go down in flames here demonstration that Minnesota remains increasingly skeptical of President Obama's call for more nuclear power.

Vermont blocks federal relicensing of Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant

In a 26 to 4 vote in the Vermont  Senate, the state legislative body overwhelming decided on February 24, 2010 that a twenty-year license extension of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant is not in the best interest of "Green Mountain State."

Arizona Republican drops state bill to define nukes as "renewable"

On February 25, 2010. Arizona State Republican Debbi Lesko pulled her bill to define nuclear power as a "renewable" energy source . She had been criticized for drafting legislation that would have gutted a growing solar industry in one of the sunniest states in the United States.
