Centralized Storage

With the scientifically unsound proposed Yucca Mountain radioactive waste dump now canceled, the danger of "interim" storage threatens. This means that radioactive waste could be "temporarily" parked in open air lots, vulnerable to accident and attack, while a new repository site is sought.

Texas files lawsuit against NRC for licesning ISP CISF

The Attorney General of Texas, Ken Paxton, has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Paxton filed the lawsuit on behalf of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. This lawsuit against the NRC argues that the agency's Sept. 13, 2021 approval for the Interim Storage Partners consolidated interim storage facility license is unlawful, and should be vacated. The case was filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

New Mexico backs Texas in opposing nuclear fuel storage

As reported by the Associated Press.

Please note there is an error in the AP article. When it refers to "231 million tons of other radioactive waste," it should have said 231 metric tons -- it is referring to Greater Than Class C (GTCC) "low-level" (albeit highly radioactive!) radioactive waste.
