ISP/WCS: NRC ASLB's INITIAL SCHEDULING ORDER

Regarding the Interim Storage Partners/Waste Control Specialists license application to construct and operate a consolidated interim storage facility (CISF) for 40,000 metric tons of highly radioactive, commercial irradiated nuclear fuel, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Atomic Safety and Licensing Board has issued its INITIAL SCHEDULING ORDER.

Sierra Club is the only opponent to the de facto permanent surface storage "parking lot" dump to both establish standing, in the eyes of the ASLB, and to submit a contention worthy of a hearing on the merits. Sierra Club's contention is in regards to two species of endangered lizards that would be impacted by the ISP/WCS CISF.

Other opponents, including Beyond Nuclear, Don't Waste Michigan et al., and Fasken, established standing, but did not submit an admissible contention, the ASLB ruled months ago. All these opponents have appealed that ruling to the NRC Commissioners.
