Chernobyl: real lives, real stories, real tragedies. Join our event!

How do we tell the Chernobyl nuclear disaster story? Through the testimonials of 500 eyewitnesses? The lives of imagined characters in a novel? By researching the often buried archives to uncover the truth? Or by bringing humanitarian aid to the children of Belarus? Join us for Living with Chernobyl: Personal stories from the world's worst nuclear disaster, a free online event on April 25, 12 noon-1pm EDT.

We will explore each of those paths, with our stellar lineup of guests. Actor Maxine Peake will read from Svetlana Alexievich’s Nobel Prize-winning book Chernobyl Voices/Chernobyl Prayer and we will talk to novelist Darragh McKeon, historian Kate Brown, and activist Linda Walker, followed by an audience Q&A. Beyond Nuclear on Radio Sputnik's "Political Misfits" for Earth Day

Here is the write up:

Kevin Kamps, radioactive waste watchdog at Beyond Nuclear, and Tina Landis, environmental and social activist and the author of the book “Climate Solutions Beyond Capitalism,” join us in a conversation about the the threat of water shortages and droughts facing the western United States, what kind of impact could these have, and how big agribusiness, bad water management, and climate change denial exacerbate these crises in the region. We also talk about how these climate events also threaten the nuclear infrastructure of the country, how nuclear energy is not the most safe and efficient form of energy generation, and how we need to move forward with alternative solutions.

Beyond Nuclear on the "Sojourner Truth, with Margaret Prescod" radio program

Beyond Nuclear was honored and privileged to appear on "Sojourner Truth, with Margaret Prescod" on Earth Day.

"Sojourner Truth" has named the segment "Kevin Kamps On Fukushima Nuclear Water Waste." Here is their write up:

Japan intends to dump more than a million tons of radioactive waste water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean. This follows the 2011 incident, where six atomic power reactors were severely damaged following a 9.0 magnitude earthquake which was followed by a tsunami that damaged the nuclear plant. Our guest is Kevin Kamps, who has served as Radioactive Waste Watchdog at Beyond Nuclear since 2007. Beyond Nuclear advocates for an energy future that is sustainable, benign and democratic.
