What happens if there is a nuclear accident during a pandemic lockdown?

If a severe nuclear power plant accident happens during a viral pandemic, already scare emergency supplies would not be available to health workers. Worse still, evacuation might be impractical. Are we even ready? At the very least, everyone living and working within 50 miles of a nuclear power plant should get the minimum protection for their thyroid in the form of potassium iodide (KI) tablets. This does not mean you are safe or fully protected from the radioactive gases released during a nuclear accident. None of us should be put in this situation and all nuclear power plants should be shut down. But until that happens, KI is a fundamental human right.
